Scarfees…

Scarfees

The women who will receive the scarves are Karen refugee women from Burma, living in Mae La and Umpiem Mai camps on the Thai-Burma border. These women work with the development organisation WEAVE on a handicraft  project designed to enable them to develop economic self sufficiency through handicraft production. All of these women are waiting – for the political situation in their home country of Burma to improve so that they can go home, or for visas to live in Thailand, or to be resettled to third countries. Some of these women have been waiting within the confines of the camps for more than 19 years.
